Excessive sweating – our hyperhidrosis treatment can end your embarrassment

Hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating, is not only a nuisance but can also be a sign of a debilitating condition. Excessive sweating can be very embarrassing as it stains clothes and can affect personal and social relationships. Additionally, people who suffer severe hyperhidrosis may find it difficult to grip a pen or a steering wheel, or even to shake hands.

True Skin offers a specialised excessive sweating treatment, or hyperhidrosis treatment, that is safe and effective. Our clinicians are experienced in dealing with hyperhidrosis, whether in common areas (such as the underarms, palms and forehead) or more complicated treatment areas (such as the upper lip, nose, cheeks, feet). Our clinical team can also treat compensatory sweating in any focal area due to treatment in the past by ETS (endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy).

Excessive Sweating FAQs

What causes excessive sweating?

In most cases, hyperhidrosis occurs in those who are otherwise healthy, although neurologic, metabolic and systemic diseases can sometimes be a factor. In some instances emotions and heat may activate hyperhidrosis, but many sufferers sweat nearly all the time, regardless of the weather or their mood. When severe underarm sweating gets in the way of daily activities and antiperspirants have not worked, you may be a candidate for treatment with a muscle relaxant.

How does True Skin's hyperhidrosis treatment work?

In this treatment at our Sydney CBD skin and laser clinic, a muscle relaxant is injected into the affected areas. The relaxant temporarily blocks the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. Because the sweat glands do not receive these chemical signals, the severe sweating decreases drastically. In severe cases this treatment can reduce sweating by 30 to 50 per cent. In some cases a reduction of up to 100 per cent in excessive sweating can be achieved.

How long will the effects of a muscle relaxant treatment last?

Treatment effectively stops sweating in the treated area for six to eight months, after which we recommend maintenance treatment.
